comp.sys.wearables Posting Guidelines Copyright (c) 2003, Paul McCarty $Date: 2003/03/29 00:17:02 $ $Revision: 1.1 $ ------------------------------ Subject: Summary comp.sys.wearables is a Usenet forum for the discussion of wearable computer systems and their software as well as for the dissemination of knowledge on these subjects. ------------------------------ Subject: Appropriate Topics Appropriate topics for discussion and announcement on comp.sys.wearables should be constrained to wearable computer systems hardware, software and social implications thereof. Appropriate topics for discussion could include choosing the architecture and operating system for a wearable computer system; product preferences including quality, specifications and applications; methods of construction; and courses of study. In addition to discussion of wearable computers as described above discussion of the charter itself for comp.sys.wearables, the moderators, moderation policies, and related groups and the differences between this group and related groups, and the formation of new groups similar to or derived from comp.sys.wearables is acceptable, but subject to the moderators' discretion. ------------------------------ Subject: Inappropriate Topics Posts on semi-wearables, such as pen systems, PDAs, or laptops should be posted to their respective newsgroups, not comp.sys.wearables. Commercial advertisements, political discussions (except those dealing with the acceptability of wearable systems), flames, etc. are not appropriate in this group. The general "netiquette" FAQs posted in news.announce.newusers and news.answers all apply to comp.sys.wearables. Commercial advertisements for wearable and related products and services may be allowed at the human moderators' discretion, but will be generally prohibited. Announcements of new products and services are generally welcomed. ------------------------------ Subject: Format of Posts Posts should be in plain text, and under 80 characters per line. Posting of HTML is prohibited, including plain text messages with hypertext links embedded. Posts may be filtered to remove HTML tags and posted once they meet the guidelines described here. Posting binaries is discouraged, technical diagrams necessary to the construction of systems and other such binaries should be accessed via a link to an FTP or Web site. ------------------------------ Subject: Moderation Policy A moderation group exists which reviews each post submitted to comp.sys.wearables. A member of the moderation group will review each post submitted and promptly post it to comp.sys.wearables provided it is consistent with the charter for comp.sys.wearables and posting guidelines described here. If a submission is deemed inappropriate a response explaining the reasons for rejection will be sent to the submitter. A rejected submission may be later posted if a majority (>50%) of the active moderators approve the message. An express poster list will be maintained to allow submissions from known compliant posters to the group (such as the moderators) to be posted automatically. Any moderator can add or remove a user to or from the express posters list. In the event of a disagreement between moderators posters will by default be removed from the express posters list. The moderation group will also issue a regular posting listing the group's charter and posting guidelines. ------------------------------ Subject: Moderator Recruitment Additional moderators may be recruited from the readership as demand warrants. If a moderator wants to retire from the moderation panel, he or she agrees to make a public statement at least one month prior to retirement so that a replacement moderator may be found. When vacancies occur, anyone may volunteer to become a moderator or advisor with the consent of more than half of the current moderation panel. Moderators or advisors may be removed by a vote of two-thirds of the moderation panel. Moderators may request to be put on inactive status due to personal demands. If this inactive status exceeds six months, the moderator position will be considered vacant, and a replacement may be sought. ------------------------------ Subject: Disclaimer - The moderators of this newsgroup are not responsible for truthfulness or legality of any of the posts. - The approval of a post by a moderator is NOT an endorsement by the moderator or board. - Posters assume full responsibility for the content of their posts - Readers using information that appears in the newsgroup do so at their own risk - Posters agree that by posting items to this newsgroup they indemnify and hold harmless the directors and service providers. - The copyright for all posts remains with the poster or in the public domain as appropriate. ------------------------------ Subject: Contact Information Any questions about this document, comp.sys.wearables, submissions and policies should be directed to the moderation group at: comp-sys-wearables-moderator@gweep.ca ------------------------------ $Date: 2003/03/29 00:17:02 $
